ELDERLY HOUSING, PORTHAVEN, EDINBURGH

32 APARTMENTS FOR PORT OF LEITH HA.

The site and existing Porthaven Care Home building, which lie within Leith Conservation Area, have recently been acquired by Port of Leith Housing Association from The City of Edinburgh Council for development. The present residents have relocated to new residential home and the proposal is to demolish the existing care home with the intention of redeveloping the site to provide affordable housing for older people, a communal lounge area, and additional office space for PoLHA.

The proposed development takes the form of an ‘L’ shaped five story building with flats on first to fourth floors overlooking Leith Links and Links Wynd, and office facilities located at ground floor level. A new link at ground floor level is proposed to connect POLHA’s existing housing development at 133 Constitution Street to the new development. This will provide access to a shared common room to both existing and proposed new residency. This arrangement provides 32 flats plus new office accommodation for POLHA. Office accommodation is accessed from Wellington Place, with the flats accessed from Links Wynd.
